Haitian Among Four Others Charged Anew In Terror Plot

CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. June 3, 2009: Haitian national Laguerre Payen was among four others slapped with new charges for a May New York terror plot Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors in New York yesterday unveiled new charges against Payen as well as accused ringleader, James Cromitie and David Williams and Onta Williams, who are suspected of plotting to blow up two Riberdale, New York synagogues and shooting down military planes with stinger missiles at the Newburgh airport.

The new charge now includes `attempting to use weapons of mass destruction in the United States and attempting to acquire and use anti-aircraft missiles, as well as conspiracy and attempting to kill officers and employees of the United States.`

The four, arrested May 20 in New York, face several life sentences if convicted, the federal prosecutor’s office said. Federal authorities also claim the four have no links to any major terrorist organization. Muslim religious leaders at a mosque the four attended, claim Payen suffered from depression and mental problems.

Payen, 27, had served 15 months for assault and was supposed to be deported to Haiti. But an immigration judge stayed the order because Payen, a paranoid schizophrenic, was judged insane.
