Icebox Entertainment did it again. Last week they kicked off the Bahamas’ 2018 Carnival fete scene in grand style atop Fort Charlotte. And though the temperature lived up to the promoter’s name, the party was absolutely amazing.
To arouse our soca senses, Icebox posted its advertisement for the Suits Cooler Cruise, the seminal party for the Bahamas Carnival enthusiast. We’re likely to see tickets for this premier, champagne poppin’ event sell out as soon as they go on sale.
Last year Machel Montano pulled up next to the Suits party boat on a yacht, a microphone sailed from the DJ booth, landing in his hand, and we were treated to an impromptu concert by the king of Soca. I can’t wait to see what madness will occur in 2018.
Just this week we were to be blessed by a concert and party by Fresh Entertainment called “Carnival Unite”.
The soca fete was to lead us into the Majority Rule holiday, but the weather had other plans and cooled our fete fever. We are eagerly waiting for Fresh to announce when it has postponed “Carnival Unite” until.
But, until such time, we are still awaiting definitive dates for band launches.
Euphoria Madness could be up first, as it invites carnival enthusiasts to check out their costume theme “Exotic Birds” at Margaritaville on January 20.
According to Euphoria’s Instagram information, the entry to the event will be free and payment plans will begin for the costumes. Of course there are likely to be models displaying the 2018 costumes and an earful of 2018 soca — which, by the way, continues to be weak.
But as long as we can still have our doses of 2017 — a phenomenal year for soca music — I think we might be okay.
Enigma and Bahamas Masqueraders are especially on the watch list for costume launches, as they are two of the biggest bands on the road for Bahamas Carnival. Last year Masqueraders held a world-class costume launch at its mas camp, and kept its revelers coming back each week for continuous parties leading up to carnival. We expect no less this year.
Though the vibe is definitely changing with the change of government, which has promised to control spending when it comes to Bahamas Carnival, the show must and will go on, and we feterans are ready!
